Overview

With over 300 days of sunshine each year, there's plenty of time to savor the crisp, clean air and enjoy Vail's seemingly endless array of mountain activities. Long celebrated as the Nation's top skiing and snowboarding destination, this family vacation destination is full of winter Vail activities. Guests can explore Vail Mountain and the 350,000 acres of national forest, while enjoying alpine adventures ranging from skiing, snowboarding, Nordic skiing, snowshoeing and sleigh rides.

In the summer, the mountains come alive with wildflowers, and the mountain activities only multiply. There are hiking and biking trails, fly fishing, golf, hot-air ballooning, and much more. Adventure Ridge is one of the most popular destinations to experience a wide variety of Vail activities. Located at the peak of the mountain, this high-elevation playground is perfect for all ages, and includes a Dino Dig, Frisbee golf, trampoline and more.

In Vail Square, you can peruse the unique boutiques and galleries, skate on the outdoor ice rink in the winter, sip hot cocoa beside an outdoor fire pit, or attend a concert in the town square. Adventure Ridge

Discover a football stadium-sized playground atop Vail Mountain at Adventure Ridge with ski bikes, kids snowmobile track, a slippery slope of rip-roaring tubing lanes, an alpine coaster and more. This family friendly snow park welcomes guests throughout the afternoon well into the evening with loads of activities and delicious fare at Bistro Fourteen in Eagle's Nest. Take the Eagle Bahn Gondola in Lionshead all day until dark to find a family experience like none other. There's truly nothing quite like enjoying a cup of hot chocolate, smothered in whipped cream while watching the sun set over the legendary back bowls of Vail together.

  • Open Tuesday through Saturday, 1:00pm - 7:00pm through April 1, 2017
  • Located at the top of the Eagle Bahn Gondola in Lionshead. Free rides for foot passengers after 3:30pm. Scenic Ride tickets available for purchase before 3:30pm.

  • A Scenic Gondola Ride Ticket is required to visit Adventure Ridge during regular mountain hours for guests who do not have an Epic Pass or Lift Ticket. However, the Eagle Bahn Gondola is free after 3:30pm.
  • Consider the Scenic Ride and Dine Ticket if you plan on eating at one of the Eagle's Nest restaurants during your playtime.

Winter Tubing

Grab a tube, hop a lift, get a rush. Our multi-lane tubing hill shoots you downhill while the easy-access surface lift takes you back up quickly.

From animal tracks to the mountain pine beetle, the Nature Discovery Center is your source for all things wild, including guided snowshoe tours with an expert naturalist offered at 2pm daily, no reservations required. Golden Eagle Zipline

Golden Eagle Zipline

Take in the sights and sounds of Vail Mountain from a bird's eye view on the Golden Eagle Zipline at the top of Eagle's Nest. Soar, zip and swoosh to new heights with your friends on this 1,200 ft-long zipline!

Activity Restrictions: Participants must be at least 8 years old, 45-80" tall, and weigh between 55 and 275lbs. Harness must fit properly. Fully enclosed footwear, no heel straps, required for all activities.

Forest Flyer™

Forest Flyer

Speed is your friend as you fly through the forest on a raised alpine coaster! the Forest Flyer™ winds its way 3,400 feet down the mountain, following the natural contours of the landscape through the forest.

For guests who do not meet the height requirement for the Forest Flyer™ a free ride along ticket will be provided for a companion 16 years or older to accompany them as the driver.

Top of the Mountain Tour

Top of the Mountain Tour

This Mountain Top Tour is an open-air adventure in a guided off-road vehicle with incredible views of Vail's legendary Back Bowls, the Gore Range and Mount of the Holy Cross. You will learn about Vail's ecosystem and geology from your personal tour guide. The 11-mile loop begins at Eagle's Nest, winds up and around Vail mountain and loops back to Adventure Ridge. Guests need to be able to sit in their own seat and cannot have children on laps or in baby carriers.

A.M. and P.M. tours leave from Adventure Ridge Sales Pavilion at Eagles Nest with a Vail Mountain Hiking Guide. Possible routes include Berry Picker, Ridge Route to Grand Escape, or others. Particular routes can be requested by booking a private hiking tour.

Nature Discovery Center

Nature Discovery Center

Explore an assortment of Rocky Mountain nature exhibits with knowledgable naturalists at the Nature Discovery Center. Come inside and discover the different types of wildlife you might encounter on the slopes of Vail Mountain, watch a short "Skecology" video, or learn about snow science! The mountaintop nature center is open during the winter ski season. All ages welcome, Tuesday-Saturday 11am-7pm, Sunday-Monday 11am-4pm.

Bistro Fourteen

Bistro Fourteen

Named after the view of the fourteen thousand foot Mount of the Holy Cross, Bistro Fourteen offers casual, sit-down dining with a full bar at the top of the Eagle Bahn Gondola (#19). Perfect for lunch, après, or a post-Adventure Ridge appetite.

Liability Form

All participants of any Adventure Ridge activity must fill out a Liability Form. You may fill it out before you come and bring it with you for quicker access to the activities.

Ski and Snowboard Schools Vail and nearby Beaver Creek’s world-renowned ski and snowboard school programs offer unparalleled instruction in alpine skiing and snowboarding for every age and ability, including dedicated children's lessons and adaptive skiing. With more than 1,300 professional ski instructors, many of whom come from international destinations, Vail and Beaver Creek’s ski school programs provide the most rewarding instructional experiences in the world.

Adventure Ridge, situated high atop Vail Mountain, is a year-round, day-and-night activity center offering exciting activities for adults and kids of all ages. To experience this high-elevation playground, ride the Eagle Bahn gondola (rides are free after 2 p.m.) up to Adventure Ridge and enjoy ski biking, snow tubing, kids snowmobiling, and rebound trampoline. Nordic Skiing and Snowshoeing Enjoy classic cross-country skiing, telemark skiing and snowshoeing while touring in the beautiful back-country around Vail departing from Golden Peak daily. Tours for all abilities. For those looking for groomed Nordic trails try McCoy Park at Beaver Creek features a superb, 32-kilometer track system complete with skating lanes, snowshoe trails and amazing Rocky Mountain views. And the Vail Nordic Center offers a groomed track as well. Both Vail and Beaver Creek offer instruction, equipment rental and retail shops. Improve your racing abilities with our NASTAR race clinics, offering personalized gate training and video analysis at both Vail and Beaver Creek. Clinics in Vail are run by professional racers and race coaches. Pricing is based on the number of participants.

Backcountry Tours Escape to the pristine Rocky Mountain backcountry on a ski and snowboard or snowshoe tour and enjoy untracked snow, quiet glades and breathtaking mountain views. Guides will lead you to wherever the snow is best – often in the national forest above 10,000 feet.

Dog Sledding Experience the thrill of dog sledding, in which a sled pulled by a team of dogs whisks you through the beautiful winter landscape of the White River National Forest. Each sled can accommodate up to two adults. Trips include transportation, blankets and a hot cocoa break.

Snowmobiling Guided snowmobiling tours range from a one-hour trip through the scenic backcountry at the base of the mountains to a full-day excursion exploring the powder stashes and high ridges above 10,000 feet. For the more experienced rider who prefers a self-guided trip, snowmobile rentals are also available.

Sleigh Rides Experience an unforgettable evening sleigh ride through the snow-covered meadows and forests of the Vail Valley. Interested in dinner as well? Ice Skating Take a spin around the Alderhof Ice Rink, located in the heart of Vail Square. The rink is open daily throughout the winter. Ice skates are available for rent.

Hot-Air Ballooning Skim the tree tops for a bird's-eye view of the spectacular, snowcapped Colorado Rocky Mountains. For the best views, depart around 6 a.m. and watch the sun rise above the Colorado peaks.

Mountain Biking Mountain biking has become one of Vail's most popular summer outdoor activities. You can rent a variety of bike types at Vail Sports (a rental shop located adjacent to the hotel). Take a leisurely ride along the Eagle River on the bike path, or, ride the Vista Bahn Chair or the gondola up the hill with your bike, and enjoy a scenic ride down one of the many trails, from groomed beginner to technical single-track. For an extra-challenging workout, bike up one of the mountain trails, as well!

Sporting Clays Just 30 minutes west of Vail our guests can enjoy a state-of-the-art, ten-station "sporting clays" course set in some of Colorado’s most dramatic scenery. Whether you're an adventurous novice needing instruction or a seasoned shooter, this topnotch sporting clays course has something for you. Tennis The Vail Tennis Center offers a slice of heaven: eight Har-Tru clay courts and four hard courts with the Gore Range as a stunning backdrop. Open dawn to dusk Memorial Day weekend through September 30, the Tennis Center includes a full-service pro shop that rents racquets and courts, offers private lessons and provides clinics for all ages.
